Position Title: Bioinformatics Developer

Location: South Plainfield, NJ

Shift: M-F 9am-5pm

What You’ll Do

  • Develop high-performance, robust, & production-grade bioinformatics tools and workflows.
  • Participate in cloud and/or automation system development.
  • Collaborate with internal and external team members to develop bioinformatics tools and workflows for new products and services.
  • Maintain production-grade codebase and documentation.
  • Support internal & external research projects.
  • Mentor & train junior team members.

What You Will Bring

  • Minimal master-level degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.  PhD-level degree preferred.
  • Subject matter expert in bioinformatics tool and workflow development.
  • At least 3 years of industry work experience in production-grade bioinformatics or genomics software application development, or a related role.
  • At least 8 years of demonstrable experience in developing bioinformatics tools and analysis workflows.
  • Proficiency in Python programming language.
  • Proficiency in designing and developing database-based applications (e.g., PostgreSQL and/or MySQL based).
  • Proficiency in developing and deploying applications for Linux OS.
  • Familiar with common algorithm design principles/patterns, common data structures & their benefits and drawbacks, and algorithm complexity analysis concepts & techniques.
  • Familiar with commonly used tools and techniques to evaluate software performance, e.g., RAM, Disk IO, network IO, and CPU usages.
  • Experience in Java, C/C++ programming languages a bonus.
  • Familiar with Git version control.
  • Familiar with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process, and the associated testing, documentation, & deployment best practices.
  • Familiar with Docker (including building Docker Image, commonly used Docker Image optimization techniques, and deploying applications via Docker).
  • Familiar with Conda operations.
  • Knowledge of AWS services and their applications.
  • Understand software documentation best practices, and demonstrable good software documentation habits and abilities.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, and team player.
