We are seeking a Sales Application Engineer with a proven track record of working with scientists, researchers, and clinicians in the life science industry, who has a deep understanding of their workflows, methods, and processes and who has the ability to “translate” all of this information in a way that can be shared and explained with other technical groups within Azenta to develop world-class products and solutions to meet the needs of our customers.
What You’ll Do…
The Sales Application Engineer will support our Automated Storage commercial team on most technical pre-sales support activities such as:
- Requirements: gathering and solution presentations.
- Engineering: capacity, throughput, facilities, etc.
- Software: user interface, computer interface, software demonstration, etc.
- Application: workflow, sample integrity, etc.
- Price: cost & price calculation.
- In a customer-facing role, you will also be in a position of receiving feedback from customers on new product feature requests, customer complaints, and quality issues so you will also work with the appropriate groups to make sure that our customers’ needs are addressed.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Supporting new system sales, focused mostly on mainland Europe, through to order placement and hand-over to the operational team that may include:
- Working with a salesperson from sales opportunity qualification to purchase order.
- Evaluating solutions from a technical and commercial viewpoint.
- Translate technical details into applicable customer benefits.
- Engaging with the customer to understand the problem to be solved.
- Writing proposals and working with Product Management to develop standard/reusable documents to streamline this process.
- Presenting solutions/options to customers (which may range from informal discussions to being part of a formal team ‘pitch’ in a tender process).
- Costing and bid preparation, including public tenders.
- Work with various teams within the wider Azenta organization to provide technical solutions to meet customers’ requirements to achieve results.
- Work with third party collaborators and suppliers that may be required or key to the sale or needed as part of the overall technical solution.
- Assisting the salesperson to develop a winning sales strategy.
- Support Sales & Marketing teams with the creation of technical content such as white papers, case studies, posters, and other collateral to strengthen technical credibility and help to drive achievement of annual sales growth.
- Feedback to Product Management on the market, new product development ideas and directions.
- Efficient use of own time and Azenta resources to meet sales objectives.
What you will Bring…
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering, life science or related discipline; Advanced Degree desirable.
- 4+ years of experience in engineering, sales application engineering, product management, or project management preferably within the life sciences, healthcare, or medical device industry.
- An enquiring mind with a strong mathematical capability and an ability to understand science and engineering; natural interest in mechanical and technical systems is desired.
- Ability to independently translate complex ideas and provide accurate and easily understood resolutions to a variety of problems
- Solid oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly to other stakeholders in different functions at various levels.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to function effectively and tactfully with multiple departments and personnel, able to gain consensus and commitment
- Demonstrated understanding of FDA Quality System Regulation (ISO 13485), EU Medical Device Regulation, GLP, GMP, or GAMP is strongly desired
- Fluent with MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint
- Highly motivated, goal orientated and outgoing. Self-starter – able to plan own schedule and priorities. Demonstrated initiative and self-development.
- Fluency in English required but professional working proficiency in French is highly desirable.
