Overall Purpose of the Job:
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to work with a small team of mechanical design engineers contributing to design and manufacturing support following a welcome influx of customer contracts. This includes assembly & detail component design, generation of BOMs and design substantiation (e.g. calculations etc) and working with cross-functional teams to meet customer requirements & timescales.
What You Will Do:
- Undertakes design of assemblies, sub-assemblies and components using Solidworks 3D CAD systems.
- Ensures designs are robust by using techniques such as FMEA / design review / DFM & DFS
- Drives repeatability and standardization into Cryogenic products by utilizing equipment and sub-systems that are already developed and proven.
- Translates requirements for sub-systems into design solutions
- Works with the design team to identify, analyze and resolve project difficulties before they arise.
- Cooperates closely with other functions in the Hardware design team including Electrical Design, Refrigeration, Systems Engineering.
- Applies a ‘standard operations’ approach to the design process (e.g. calculation templates) and works with team lead to reinforce & further develop company practices.
- Expected to keep up to date on technical advances in the discipline and related fields.
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree (engineering, manufacturing, or similar) with 5 to 10 years mechanical system design experience.
- Experience with 3D CAD Modelling (Solidworks preferred), PLM system (Agile preferred) and use of this technology to improve design quality & efficiency.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC) preferred.
- Experience with automation design e.g. motors, gearboxes, bearings, positional accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to detail design components, add dimensions and tolerances, tolerance stack calculations.
- Experience with design assemblies including generation of assembly drawings and BOMs.
- Can work with Operations and Test team during build and testing phases.
- Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing methods and designs accordingly.
- Direct experience of generating design calculations.
- Experience of design for CE technical construction files would be desirable.
- Working knowledge of lean, continuous improvement tools and techniques. Can work effectively as part of a team.
